Fabio praises superb Rooney

England coach Fabio Capello has heaped further praise on Wayne Rooney, while giving another hint that Michael Owen's international career could be over...

How web broadcasting works

Webcams are those handy little cameras that attach to your PC and send images to a web page that Streamyx be viewed by others. This enables streamyx forum to share daily life events streamyx customer support friends and family in other parts of the country or the world, or to arrange a video-conference with colleagues and maintain long distance relationships of all kinds. Of course the number of ways to use this technology is limited only by your imagination.

But before you buy a webcam, it pays to understand a little about how the technology of broadcasting images over the Internet works. Of course, if you're a full bottle on this already, you can skip this section and go straight to browsing the options on Streamyx where you can compare products and suppliers, their specifications and prices.

Webcams provide 'real time' images of people; places and events that can be viewed 'live' on a web streamyx 2m The broadcasting end has a camera that captures the images, feeds them into a computer to an ISP and out to viewing pages across the Internet. There are two different types of broadcast: streaming images, where the images are a constant stream downloaded in video format; or Java, where the images are captured at fixed time intervals and refreshed on the web pages at a rate fixed by the broadcaster.

The Applications - What are you intending to broadcast, and to whom?

There is a wide range of uses of webcam technology. Some examples include personal 'Big Brother' style diaries, sharing of family events, workplace security, video conferencing, virtual tourism, road traffic management, weather watching, event broadcast and a host of others.

Before you make a choice about any webcam equipment, it helps to decide exactly how you want to use the technology, in other words, what you are intending to broadcast. This decision will impact upon the type of camera you use, and how you use it.

A second consideration is, who will be viewing your content? What level of quality is expected? This will help determine the type of camera you use, the software involved and your Internet connection. Of course, your Internet connection may be a limitation on how much you can do.

The requirements for video conferencing are different from the requirements of workplace security, which are different again from the requirements of sharing a family event.

The physical components

There are a number of physical components required to make web cam technology work. At the top of the list is the camera itself. Then, depending on the type of camera you use and the way in which you want to deliver the content to the Internet, you may streamyx broadband to incorporate video capture hardware in your computer. Some software is required to help you process the data, and Internet connection is required and a web page into which the data is fed.

CAMERA CHOICES

Your choice of camera depends somewhat on what you are intending to show. If you need to reach a large public audience yo may want good quality camcorder or megapixel camera that captures high quality images. If it's just for seeing who's at your front door or keeping an eye on the kids in their playroom, then it may not need to present high quality images. If you are intending to use it outdoors, it will need to be weather proof and you may need to consider sun and UV protection. Available power supply and any robotic requirements for camera movement and focus are extra considerations.

Dedicated webcams

The most basic webcams connect to a PC using a simple USB connection. A wide range of cameras with accompanying software at a range of prices is available for this type of application. Simply search though Myshopping.com.au to compare prices and specifications. Dedicated webcams are simple to install and easy to use, but come with limitations that affect the quality of the images, such as low number of frames per second (refresh rates) and resolution (pixels per inch).

Camcorders and security cameras

Higher quality images and more camera control come from using camcorder and security cameras. To use these devices you will need to add a video capture card to your PC. Once you have that installed however, you can use a wide range of cameras from broadcast cameras to miniature spy cameras. You can include variable lens options, filters for daylight and low light situations, as well as robotic controls for panning and focus adjustments. You can search through Myshopping.com.au for camcorder selections.

Integrated cameras

An integrated camera combines the camera and the optical hardware with a video server, and as such requires no additional software. They can be used in network situations or as stand-alone devices for monitoring progress on a construction project for example.

Megapixel cameras

Network megapixel cameras combine network capability with high quality digital camera technology. These cameras offer excellent quality but this creates large files sizes, therefore they have limited application in constant streaming video. However for interval refreshed archive image collection, they are ideal, providing a constant record and high quality. You can search through Myshopping.com.au for digital camera selections.

SOFTWARE

If you are not using an integrated camera solution, you will need to install an encoding program like Webcaster or MediaCaster to transfer your images to a web page.

At the receiver end, when web surfers browse the internet and wish to view live video on the web for the first time, they will need to download dedicated applications that show the content such as an ActiveX control, Windows Media player, Flash player or the like.

INTERNET CONNECTION

Finally, you need an Internet connection. The hardware you will need may include a modem for dial-up connection, or modem/router for a broadband solution. Naturally the higher the quality you want, or the faster refresh rate you want, the more bandwidth you will need. ADSL (Broadband) is going to offer you the best solution, but keep in mind what your Internet connection when you are making choices of cameras and feeder software.

Webcam applications work well with wireless solutions. Make sure when you are purchasing a camera or network video solution that it is compatible with any wireless system you may be using in a LAN.

Key considerations

The specifications that are variable with webcam applications, and are affected by camera type, web interface and Internet connection, include the number of frames per second and the image resolution.

Frames-per-second is the number of times a still image flashes by in a second to give the appearance of moving pictures. In Australia, the standard television PAL format is at 25 frames per second. A webcam with up to 30 frames per second will show normal video images. But the more frames per second you demand, the more bandwidth, memory and processing power is required.

Resolution is streamyx slow the number of pixels per inch. High quality photographs require a high resolution. But the standard for web images is a low 72 dpi. Higher resolution images will not be of any better visual quality, just slower to upload and download.

Use Myshopping.com.au to compare different webcams, camcorders and digital cameras. You can compare the prices and specifications of the different products and brands, and a wide range of reputable vendors.

Andrew Gates for comparison online shopping service MyShopping.com.au. MyShopping.com.au helps you compare the different webcams from different brands in terms of specifications and accessories. You can also compare prices from hundreds of different brands and vendors

Clearwire's new Mobile WiMax service may be garnering all of the buzz, but the company still offers a significant number of customers their fixed pre-WiMax service, for which our user reviews have never been particularly stellar. This week finds the law firm of Tycko and Zavareei trying to organize a class action lawsuit (see press release and complaint) against the carrier for misrepresenting the quality of the connection Clearwire offers, but also for the early termination fees (ETF) of up to $220 the company charges consumers. From the complaint:

The complaint alleges that the majority of Clearwire s subscribers are required to enter into one or two-year agreements. Should a subscriber decide to cancel Clearwire service for any reason, including lack of internet service or moving to a location in which Clearwire service is not offered, Clearwire charges the subscriber an Early Termination Fee. The complaint alleges that the Early Termination Fee constitutes an unlawful penalty, stymies competition, and is otherwise void and unenforceable.
Mobile carriers have faced (and often settled) similar suits forcing them to pro-rate their ETFs, something Clearwire already started doing for customers who signed up after March 1, 2007. However, most other wireless companies now void the ETF if a user moves out of the coverage area, something the lawsuit alleges Clearwire doesn't do. All five of the users cited in the class action are using Clearwire's older fixed technology.

CECT M88 (MiPhone) Vs CECT I9 - Which Popular iPhone Clone is Better Or Right For You?

Last year at about Christmas time, I started researching and writing about broadband cable phone iPhone clones. At that time, kuala lampur malasia CECT iClone (P168) was the darling of the day. I figured this dominance would last for a few months and then taper off, but I was mostly wrong.Although other novelty phones did become very popular and gain some ground (particularly shake and tilt models like kuala lumpur langkawi and A380i), the P168 was, for a very long time, still the stand out best seller.

But, recently that has been changing. Two knocks offs have risen to the top of the clone heap - these are the CECT i9 and the CECT M88 (aka MiPhone.) my broadband speed article will discuss the similarities and the differences between the two so that you can determine which may work best for you.

Features: Both of these phones have your basic specs of the clones including the ability to browse the Internet, use Bluetooth, listen to MP3s and watch MP4s. There are also built in digital cameras / web cams, FM radios, e book readers, and handwriting recognition.

Both of these phones are quad band, working worldwide on most all GSM carriers. You can typically just pop your sim card into the phone and you're good to go.

And, very importantly to a lot of consumers, both support Java downloads, software, and applications. This allows for thousands of gaming possibilities (many of them free), as well as popular Microsoft (and others) productivitysoftware like MSN, Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.

But, here one major place is where they differ. The M88 MiPhone also has WiFi, Windows Mobile (6.0) and GPS. For people who need these feature, this can make a huge difference. I find that the M88 malaysia public holiday (but not always) appeals a lot to people who want to work and input data away from the office whereas the i9 appeals to a lot of folks who use the phone more for surfing the web and listening to music / watch movies more for entertainment (although you can do this on both phones.)

Sim Slots: One thing that makes the CECT i9 so popular is that it has dual sim active which means that not only does it have two sim slots with which you can have two networks or phone numbers, but both can be online at once. So, you could be texting or viewing a web siteon AT&T and accepting a call on T Mobile. This can be important for people who are concerned about missing calls.

The M88 is single sim and does not have this feature.

Shake And Tilt (AKA Shake Control or "Shake To The Music"): One reason that the i9 can be considered more of a novelty phone is because it has the "shake and tilt" feature which means that you advance songs, video, wallpapers, media, etc. by only shaking it. And, the phone will right it's picture every time you tilt it. It goes from portrait to landscape with the flick of your wrist.

The i9 has this feature. The M88 does not.

Size: The 9 is much smaller and sleeker, and is sometimes called a mini. The 88 is full sized, which is appropriate since most people find inputting data into a larger phone an easier task.

Cost: Price wise, you'll often pay more for the M88 (which runs an averageof around the $200 price range) than you will for the i9 (which you can often get in the $100 range.)

However, as I said earlier these two phones (at least in my opinion) tend to appeal to different subsets of consumers. Every consumer is different of course, but it appears to me that the MiPhone typically appeals more to business people or students who value it's productivity, while the i9 appeals more to people who value the Java gaming downloads and the shake and tilt that is used for MP3s and MP4s.

While 38% of Spains 44 million residents have access to hotels in kuala lumpur internet via fixed line, Spain also has one of Europes largest mobile communications markets in Europe, with current statistics showing 109% penetration.

Couple that with Spains love of skill games and their propensity to gamble (again one of the largest gambling markets in Europe, with some 30 billion euros spent on gambling in 2006 according to national statistics) you can see the potential klcc kuala lumpur the games market and in particular the future growth potential in the mobile gaming market.

The majority of Spains broadband users could only access around 1mb/s in 2006 and for many the average speed was much less. This is due to the lack of investment and renewal of fixed line technology. Telefonica who category: internet service and access providers most of the fixed lines and who lease them to service providers like Ya.com or Spantel, have failed to invest in fixed line technology, and the nature of their telephone lines has been the common reason why many have only been able to receive low bandwidth.

Many of Spains residents who live outside main towns or cities also fail to receive high speeds (indeed many even fail to obtain adsl at all) as the distance from the central exchange point causes attenuation on lines. Without investment in repeaters or exchange points, residents are now turning to internet access via mobile phones or USB modems as a faster and more tmnet streamyx self way of connecting to search the internet or powersurf games.

Together with Vodafone (one of the three main operators of mobile communications in Spain) and Nortel, recently investing heavily in 3.6 megabit 3G communications technology for Spain, users are now able to access speeds averaging around 2mb/s, faster than the average fixed line bandwidth speeds in other major European countries.

The higher speeds allow greater variation in services, and one of the major services provided to mobile users is online gaming.

Nokia NGage, who recently undertook a survey of mobile gamers in Europe, state that 77% of Spanish subscribes play games on their mobile at least once per week, with some 14% at least once every day.

64% of mobile users in Spain play games on the move, more so than at home which is only 50%. Multiplayer gaming is becoming more streamyx bridge with 17% currently accessing best broadband packages games each week and averaging 28 minutes sessions.

Silicon Seeds (an online mobile games site) also claim that Spain is the second biggest market in Europe for downloading mobile games.

Movilenio's Ludo was the best-selling mobile game for Vodafone Spain in December 2005, and was featured on the Vodafone Live portal for weeks.

Bingo is another multi-player game which is proving popular in Spain, though while growth in registrations in particularly fast, actual cash play is proving much more difficult to accomplish as it seems the Spanish much prefer free-play games. Perhaps this is also due to Spains lack of confidence in providing credit card details over the internet or over the air. However, it is not thought to be too long before bingo will be offered over the air to mobile subscribers as e-gaming magazine report recent further development of mobile bingo and casino games from some of the big mobile gaming development companies.

So while countries like the UK and Sweden continue the fastest growth of bandwidth capabilities together with online bingo gaming offerings, the future for online bingo in Spain is certainly more mobile.

Comparing DSL and Cable Broadband to a T1 Line For Business

With all the talk lately about bandwidth broadband telephone who can provide it reliably, the landscape is getting very confusing. To make matters worse, many local carrier agents lowyat streamyx saying just about anything tmnet jaring get the sale, regardless of whether it is the truth or not. So how do cyberjaya malaysia get the bandwidth webbit need for bangsar kl business?

First of all, let's get one thing out of the way kuala lumpur guide now. DSL, cable, and satellite are not going to cut it for you, and if you are seriously considering DSL, cable or satellite, that tells me you either do not understand telecom and bandwidth, or you are letting the cost scare you into a decision that is going to be detrimental for your business. Neither DSL, cable, or satellite are serious considerations for a serious dsl broadband internet entity.

For those who don't believe that, consider the facts - with DSL and cable, you do NOT get any kind of bandwidth availability guarantee. None! That is because at the prices they are offering their "service" for, you are SHARING that bandwidth amongst 50 or more other businesses and residences in your area. You lowyat streamyx ZERO performance guarantee and you have ZERO bandwidth availability guarantee. It might be good right now today, but there is no guarantee of what it will be tomorrow or next week. If that 3 MB advertisement drops to 3 K tomorrow, the carrier is still meeting their terms of service!

DSL and cable also offer different speeds - they might advertise "3 MB" but what they aren't telling you is that that 3 MB is a theoretical maximum only, assuming all the 50+ others tm net streamyx combo that you are sharing your circuit segment with are logged off, in which case achieving that speed is indeed theoretically possible. They also are neglecting to mention that your UP speed is significantly different than your down speed, where your up speed is maybe as high as 384k, and sometimes only barely different from dialup speeds. Neither DSL nor cable offer any kind of uptime guarantee.

If they tell you differently, get it in writing. Not a statement that says "up to" but an actual guarantee that you will get NO LESS THAN a stated speed, both up and down, 24x7. But you won't get it in writing without major disclaimers because they cannot deliver.

A T1 line is vastly different. You have a written guarantee that you are getting 1.5 MB up and 1.5 MB down, 24x7, and it is a DEDICATED circuit, not shared like DSL and cable. (And yes, even "business DSL" is shared!) You have a 99.99% uptime guarantee. You are not "distance limited" as you are with DSL. If you can get a phone line to your location, you can get a T1 line.

Now with all of this said, a T1 line is NOT used for a residence to get better performance than your current residential DSL or residential cable. Yes it can be done, there is not a technical issue that would prevent a T1 from being installed in a residence, but if the users are just you and your spouse, does it make financial sense to spend $300 or more per month for a T1 line? Yes, you get incredibly better performance, but for a residential location, it is hard for you to justify, and you are not going to find a reliable T1 for under at least $300 a month and probably more for non-major-metro locations, it's just not going to happen from a reliable provider.

Lastly, let's talk about reliable providers and let's equate it to cars for a moment. Sure, you can get a decent car from Honest Joe's Car Emporium at a decent price, but what kind of problems are you going to have with billing, service and performance, compared to buying the car from a factory authorized volume dealer who is also the manufacturer?

There are many second and third tier carriers out there, but if you buy based on price alone, you are not seeing the big picture. How much is your time worth if you need to invest your time talking to the carrier multiple times weekly about the circuit being down, the performance blowing, and billing not correct? Now add your personal time costs, time where you are NOT pursuing your company's income activities, into the base price of that T1, and you will undoubtedly find that T1 line from Billy Bob's T1's Inc actually costs you MORE than if you had used a first tier or top tier carrier in the first place.

Your best value, above all, is to use an agency that does a volume of business with multiple first tier and top tier carriers. If they represent multiple carriers, you can assume they are not emotionally tied to any of them, but are more interested in speed of broadband the best value for you, the customer. This is, by far, the best way to broadband dsl modem your business dollar for the best value.

For more insights and additional information about getting the lowest price from amongst about 30 first tier and top tier carriers on a T1 Line, each with a Low Price Guarantee, from the agency that won the Carrier Of The Year award at the 2008 National Telecom Association conference, please visit our web site at http://www.t1-realtime-quote.com

Broadband is State-of-the-Art Internet Access: How Can a Broadband Cable Benefit You?

We are now well ensconced in a time when the Web is riddled with graphics, animations, sounds, and videos, bringing about a necessity for superior internet access such as that which broadband can provide. The fact is that anything less than the streamyx plan supplied by a broadband cable has become inadequate for todays Web users.

Of course, if you use the internet only once every broadband phone often, you wouldnt be as heavily dependent upon high-speed internet access as is provided by broadband, however, if youre a regular user, www tmnet virtually a necessity.

But wait a minuteeven your internet connection speed you use the internet, it doesnt mean you know exactly what this high focus form of internet access actually is. So lets start there. In essence, broadband is a very fast form of internet connection. Broadband Will provide you with a noticeably best broadband internet internet speed than a dial-up connection.

Broadband used to be a challenge only because of its limited availability, however, today there are many ways that you can have a much faster connection. The delivery methods of broadband have been expanded to the following types of broadband cable:

- Copper telephone wires

- Cable telephone cable wires

- Radio microwaves from local base stations

- Satellite microwaves from geo-stationary satellites

Now lets look at why this faster style of internet access is actually better. The benefits of broadband actually include much more than faster downloads. Broadband is the connection that is always on? As soon as you start up your computer, its already connected to the 2mb broadband For anyone who has waited for a modem to dial up and connect, the advantage of this is quite apparent. Furthermore, broadband allows you to download movies, music, and web pages that were virtually inaccessible in practical terms when using dial-up.

But the benefits of broadband arent just felt by individual users. Businesses, governments, schools, and communities can all tweak broadband the superiority that broadband cables can provide.

Here are some examples of benefits for each of those types of organizations:

- Businesses will notice an increase in productivity when large data files transfer quickly and directly among local and head offices, no matter the distance between the locations. Moreover, with the popularity of net-meetings and videoconferencing, a face-to-face meeting becomes entirely possible without the travel costs.

- Schools can now offer equal opportunities to their students no matter their location or funding. A student in a remote community is now able to use a broadband connection to receive violin lessons from the same revered instructor as a student in a large city. Moreover, rural students can take virtual field trips and see the same fascinating and educational museums as city kids.

- Local governments are now enjoying broadband benefits that let them provide one-stop shopping for town business transactions, as well as licensing, permits, billing, and utility payments.

- Communities have been quick to jump on the broadband band wagon to promote their local historical and other various tourist attractions. No other marketing resource reaches as far and as effectively as the internet.

There are so many fantastic benefits to a high-speed, broadband internet connection, that it is becoming as basic?a need as a computer in todays society.

The Quality Of Your VOIP Solution Lies With The Weakest Link

The most reliable of all VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) solutions will always perform in accordance with shah alam malaysia quality of the data connection involved. In determining just how well your proposed VOIP solution will work for you, look no further than your weakest data connection.

Whether you are looking for compare broadband package hosted VOIP PBX solution, implementing streamyx setup IP telephones or Softphones connected to the office via VPN, connecting multiple offices via T-1 or fiber, or just using VOIP telephone service, the common denominator that dictates your quality of voice service is your data connection. Since Voice Over IP is a data protocol, malaysia holidays only makes sense that the quality of your service will be dictated by the strength of your data connection. Your voice conversations require uninterrupted bandwidth of up to 90k each in hotels langkawi to perform with the same quality that has come to be expected from traditional analog or digital phone service. Not having the available bandwidth or uninterrupted bandwidth needed will cause poor results.

The most common methods of commercial VOIP applications seen are connecting offices together via data connections and connecting remote your internet connection speed to the on premise telephone system. Both applications have tremendous financial and efficiency benefits, but only if they can be implemented with quality of service. The ability to share resources such as a common receptionist, the ability to bypass toll charges by using IP, the ability to connect remote workers, track results, and to attract top talent with flexibility and state of the art technology all have tremendous monetary benefits to the implementing company. However, special care must be used in selecting the data connections used in order to implement the solution successfully.

We take a look at the various types of data connections available for these applications, and look at the weakest tm streamyx email in the solution

ADSL

SDSL

Cable

Wireless

Fractional kuala lumpur langkawi T-1, Bonded T-1, DS3, OC

Point to Point T-1

Frame Relay

Fiber Optic

We will take a look at the asymmetrical connections first, as they tend to be the most unreliable. Asymmetrical data connections include standard residential quality DSL, some business DSL, Cable internet, Satellite internet, and Microwave internet. In most of these cases, the download speed will often greatly exceed the upload speed. For instance, it is not unusual to see a DSL package listed at up to 1.5 M download, and up to 384k upload. "Up to" being the key. You never get full speed, and it can often be quite a bit less. A speed test will be in order during several parts of the day to test for speed and network variations. DSL typically offers no guarantees of service levels or uptime, and as a shared network, speeds will fluctuate throughout the day. Web traffic must be carefully monitored if you are using your data connection for voice applications, as it is common for voice conversations to be interrupted with data traffic if QoS routers are not in place.

ADSL circuits also tend to suffer from more jitter and latency than other types of high quality data circuits, so if this solution is used to connect remote users of offices, it is imperative to have a VPN router on both sides of the connection to ensure the best possible quality. Some downtime is to be expected on an annual basis, but it can be a tremendously cost effective connection option. Wireless options such as satellite or microwave are never suggested, as there is typically too much latency involved to maintain call integrity. ADSL is not typically recommended for a location with more than 1-2 users. ADSL is never recommended for a hosted solution.

SDSL, or symmetrical DSL, is a preferable option over ADSL. This type of connection offers users the same upload and download speeds, and it is typically a business class circuit that comes with some quality guarantees. Often speeds are seen such as 1.5M down/1.5M up. 768k down/768k up. Preferable over ADSL options, but also much more costly. For some companies, this would be a minimum acceptable solution for a location with multiple users.

Fractional T-1, T-1, Bonded T-1, DS3, OC: All of the T-1 varieties of service and greater are tremendous options for VOIP solutions. All Fraction T-1 circuits and above have been thoroughly tested over time, and they provide end users with a tremendously reliable solution. With symmetrical data solutions typically starting at 384k and up, T-1's have a guaranteed uptime unmatched by other available data circuits besides fiber. Voice Prioritization is still required at either the network level via MPLS or at the end user level when connecting offices. Voice conversations must always have priority over bursts of data traffic in order to maintain optimum call quality.

Point to Point T-1's: As one of the most preferred methods of connecting offices, Point to Point T-1's offer superior reliability and keep your voice traffic from competing with unpredictable internet or carrier network traffic. Point to Point T-1's require routers with QoS, CSU/DSU, and can be quite an investment up front, but they provide tremendous quality and uptime. By bypassing the carrier data network altogether, you are assured of a dedicated connection between your sites to be used only as you prefer. Depending on the size of the connection, offices with dozens or hundreds of people can be set up to operate off of Point to Point T-1 circuits without requiring local dial tone.

Frame Relay: If your network utilizes Frame Relay, it is not recommended to run voice services over it. Frame was never designed to support voice traffic, and there are much better and more cost effective options to choose from.

Fiber Optic. Fiber being available for direct connection or for point to point applications is becoming more and more common. Some residential varieties such as FIOS from Verizon are of an asymmetrical nature, but typically still provide plenty of reliable bandwidth to support remote users. Commercial fiber options can bypass all traditional points of failure on standard networks and can provide the best possible VOIP connection solution. Fiber bypasses the local ILEC in most cases, and it gives you a clean clear connection straight to the carrier central office. With high traffic volume capabilities and superior clarity and reliability, fiber has come to the forefront as the preferred medium for VOIP solutions. Fiber is not always cost effective, but the quality results are undeniable.

When selecting the medium or circuits that will support your VOIP solution, understand that the main limitation to quality you will experience will be the weakest link in your data network. If your main location has a T-1, but your remote users with IP phones have an ADSL circuit, your weakest link lies in the ADSL circuit. If you are going to experience quality issues, it will most likely occur there. If your main location has a bonded T-1 or DS3, but your remote warehouse has Cable internet, your weakest link will be your Cable connection. As always, work with your local telecommunications professional to determine the best and most cost effective data circuits to use when implementing a business grade VOIP solution.

Steve Norris is a Texas based telecommunications professional that provides Dallas Business Telephones and telecom services from over 80 carriers nationwide. He specializes in hardware solution for multi-location business with advanced infrastructure needs. Over 90% of his clients are able to implement a new Fort Worth Business Phone System without increasing their budget with TeleTAP.

Easter services draw the faithful for devotion, dunking

Broadcasting live content over the Internet isn't as difficult as people would think. In fact, it's extremely easy. All you need is an audio or video source, a way of getting the audio or video to the PC, a free software program supplied by Microsoft, and enough upload bandwidth to cover the broadcasting of the content.

In this tutorial, I'll attempt to teach you what you need to know so you can broadcast your content over the Internet. I'll primarily show you audio only, but you'll see how easy it is to do video as you progress through this tutorial.

As this is a text only tutorial, you will want to download the free software from Microsoft, and go through the configuration while you read this tutorial. Don't panic though. It's really easy to do. Don't let the length of this tutorial scare you away. The rewards of having your live broadcast up and running should keep you motivated to stick with it.

The only slightly complicated part of this tutorial is to do with your firewall. Due to the number of firewalls out there, I'll be very generic in my approach to telling you what you need to do. I'll explain this in further detail later in the tutorial.

Let's Start

First things first. You need to set up your audio source. In this example I'm using a radio scanner to broadcast Live Police from a radio scanner.

I basically have the radio scanner plugged into my PC's sound card with a cable roughly 2 metres (7 Feet) in length with a 3.5mm mono plug on each end. Of course the length of cable is up to you. Note: if you are broadcasting music, you'll want to use a cable that has stereo plugs instead of mono plugs. You'll also want to ensure your plugs on the cable match the audio device, Some devices may use a 2.5mm plug instead of 3.5mm. If you are broadcasting voice only, mono plugs are better as it ensures sound comes out of both speakers for the listener.

Plug the cable in so that one end plugs into the headphone socket of your audio device, and the other end plugs into the Microphone socket of your sound card on your PC.

Now go to the Microsoft website and download the Windows Media Encoder 9 software. It's free. It's approximately 9.5MB.The software is located at

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx

Once you've installed the software, go ahead and start it. You'll be presented with the setup wizard. Highlight the option named Broadcast a Live Event and click OK.

You'll now be in the window where you can choose your audio source and/or video source. If you were setting up video, you would leave both items ticked, however in this example, we're just going to do audio so go ahead and untick the video option. Under the audio option use the drop down box and choose your sound card from the list. Then click the configure button.

In the audio properties window the only thing you really need to change is the option called Pin Line. In the Drop down box, choose Microphone. Of course you can also use Line In, but you need to ensure you've plugged the cable into the Line In of your sound card.

So far it's pretty easy right? Believe it or not, there's not a great deal more to do.

Let's continue shall we

Just click OK and then Next.

If you've followed the tutorial so far, you should be in a window where you can choose a broadcast method. Click on the radio box next to Pull from the encoder and click on the Next button.

In the field labeled Http Port, pick a common port like 8080. You'll thank me later. Many firewalls on routers have rules already set up for port 8080 and it makes it a lot easier to configure. download broadband speed also allows maximum availability to the masses due to it being a common proxy port number. Go ahead and click Next.

Next we need to configure the encoding options. Go to the drop down box and choose Multiple Bit Rates audio (CBR). In the Bit rate section, choose 19kb/s. Note: Ensure you untick all the other bit rates. The only bit rate you want ticked is 19kb/s. This bit rate should be a good compromise between quality and bandwidth consumption for streaming voice quality. If you want to stream something like music, you may want to choose a higher bit rate. MP3 audio tends to be around 128kb/s but remember the higher bit rate you use, the more upload bandwidth will be required.

For an idea of bandwidth usage, you can have roughly 40 concurrent listeners on a 1mb/s upload bandwidth using 19kb/s. This will leave you with about 250kb/s for doing other things on the internet. The more concurrent listeners you have, the more powerful CPU you'll require, but from experience, you don't need a high powered CPU. The Live Police scanner at my website has a maximum of 40 concurrent listeners on a melaka malaysia CPU with 1 gig of memory and runs beautifully. And yes, I have reached 40 concurrent users at once.

Let's continue

Click the Next button, and then click it again so we skip the Archive section.

Here we'll type in some text about the audio. When people listen to the stream using their Windows Media Player, it will scroll this information to the listener.

Once you've typed in the Display Information click the Finish button instead of the Next button. You'll get a pop up dialog box that tells you about IP blocking. Just ignore this for now and click OK.

That wasn't that hard was it. Believe it or not, we're done. Well, almost.

Windows Media Encoder only allows a maximum of 5 concurrent listeners by default, so if you want to have more than 5 you can make a small windows registry change on your PC which will allow up to 50 connections.

Warning: Changing the registry can be hazardous to your operating system if you change or delete the wrong thing. If you aren't confident doing this yourself, get someone that knows what they're doing to help you out. I can't be held responsible if you mess it up, and can't boot back into your operating system. Now, having said that, it's a very easy to make the change so you shouldn't have a problem. Follow the instructions at the end of this document, only if you want to allow more than 5 concurrent listeners. If you're happy with 5 listeners, then we're almost done.

If you've followed the tutorial up until now, you will have an audio source with a cable going from the headphone socket to the Microphone socket of your sound card in your PC. You will have your Windows Media Encoder totally configured and be raring to go. Just ensure you save the configuration on the Windows Media Encoder so you can load it at any time.

One more minor speed bump to get over and you'll be broadcasting to the world. This is the part that can be a little complicated though. I'll attempt to give you the basics you'll need to get your live broadcast up and running.
We'll break this down into two parts. Configuring your firewall, and working out your IP address so you can give it out to your listeners.

Configuring your firewall

If you are using a software firewall such as Zone Alarm, it's dead simple to configure. Basically, you just run the Windows Media Encoder and click the Start Encoding button. When you do this your firewall should prompt you asking if you will allow the connections. Just choose YES to all the questions. It needs access to the Internet, as well as needs to run as a server.

If you have a hardware firewall such as one that is built into your ADSL modem/router, then it gets a little more complicated. What you need to do is go into the configuration of the modem/router, and find the section labeled Firewall. In that section you'll be able to configure firewall rules to either Allow and Deny connections. The section may be called something similar to packet filter. Consult your manual to find out exactly where you need to make the changes.

Once you've located the correct section, you'll need to configure it so that the source ports range from 0 to 65535. The destination port range should be 8080 to 8080 if you followed my tutorial. Ensure Inbound and Outbound traffic is also allowed.

Note, some modem/routers might already have port 8080 configured. If your modem/router does already have this configured, then ignore the above because it sounds like you're already configured to allow the necessary connections.

How to connect to the broadcast

The URL to give to people is mms://:8080 where is whatever your public IP address happens to be. You need to ensure it's the address your ISP gives you, since people from the Internet will be connecting to it. If you aren't sure what your IP address is, you can get your IP address by visiting a site on the internet such as http://www.ipaddressworld.com/. As soon as the site loads, your IP address will be at the top of the page in huge print. Simply replace with the actual IP address and your done.

Ensure you don't use the < and > brackets in the URL though. It should look like mms://10.10.10.10:8080 except use your IP address.

That's it. I hope your head didn't explode

The only thing left to do now is adjust your audio source levels so that the audio meter stays mainly in the green. You can experiment by connecting to the stream yourself, and by putting the mms URL above into your browser's address bar and pressing enter. Your Windows Media Player should open and try and connect to the broadcast.

Note: If you aren't able to connect to the broadcast, only play with the firewall settings, and not the encoder. Ensure you have the START ENCODING button pressed on the encoder to ensure its running. If all has gone well, you should be listening to your broadcast over the Internet. Give that URL out to your visitors.

To increase the maximum number of direct connections

1. In Registry Editor, use the tree view to navigate to the following subkey:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTSoftwareMicrosoftWindows Media ToolsEncoderMaxClientConnections

2. Edit the subkey so that it reflects the maximum number of direct connections you want to allow. The maximum possible number is 50.

Caution Incorrectly editing the registry can severely damage your system. Before making changes to the registry, you should back up any valued data on the computer.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.

Broadband - Advanced telecommunications capability category: internet service and access providers any infrastructure capable of delivering data at a speed of 200 kbps per second in both direction. To be considered a broadband service, the transmission would have to support 200 kbps in both directions . Broadband technology is the high speed transmission of digital data. Additionally, broadband connections are always on. With broadband there is no need for dial-up because the connection is constant. The broadband services are so good at low prices.

Types of Broadband Services

1.Cable modems

2.DSL (digital subscriber line)/ADSL(asymmetric digital subscriber line)

3.Satellite

The actual cable modem is simply a piece of equipment that converts the data transmissions. The modem connects to the cable television and the computer. The transmission of both upstream and downstream data on the cable television system requires two types of equipment: a cable modem on the customer end and a Cable-Modem Termination System (CMTS) at the cable provider's end.

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technologies that provide digital data transmission over the wires of a local telephone network. The download speed of consumer DSL services ranges from 256 kbps to 24,000 kbps, depending on DSL technology, line conditions and service level implemented.

Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is a form of DSL, a data communications technology that enables faster data transmission over copper telephone lines than a conventional voiceband modem can provide.

Satellite broadband is a most effective way of transmitting all types of data such as streamyx software video, audio and the Internet. You can also use Satellite broadband to make low-cost telephone calls using VOIP.
